I would like to add a disclaimer that I lack a deeper understanding of the biological mechanisms of PEMF, so the following is almost all intuition.
In my own experience with M1, it seemed to really help with tissue healing. I had surgery for Eagle syndrome, and it seemed to speed up healing post surgery. It also seemed to help quite a lot with a lumbar herniated disc. In cases where there is tissue damage or trauma of some kind, it seems to help.
However, it does not appear to help with pain that is sympathetically mediated. I am currently dealing with orofacial pain and neck pain which I believe is of sympathetic origin. I am currently pursuing a treatment called a stellate ganglion block, which could reboot the autonomic nervous system and fix the pain. There is a lot of literature to support this. But that is a whole other conversation.
While the M1 clearly helped with the former type of pain, it actually increased the latter type of pain. I had to stop using the M1 near the neck area because it was causing significantly elevated facial and neck pain. It seems the M1 actually increased sympathetic nervous system activity.
Again this is all intuition so I don’t know if it matches with what is scientifically known about the biological mechanisms of PEMF. But it is interesting to think about.
