TMJ + Club Foot + Arthritis

Hello all,

I’m a 30-year-old woman who was recently diagnosed with TMJ and arthritis of my temporomandibular joints.

2 years ago I had double jaw surgery to correct an overbite and recessed jaw, which went well.

However, my TMJ seems to have gotten worse, and I sometimes experience pain from grinding my teeth at night. This is despite wearing a thin 0.8 mm custom retainer on my upper and lower teeth.

I also have Ehlers Danlos and was born with bilateral clubfoot (which was successfully corrected as a baby).

I would sincerely appreciate any advice on the following:

  1. I have titanium plates and screws in my upper and lower jaw. Can I still use PEMF? If so, what is the ideal placement?

  2. My lower legs and feet are underdeveloped, and sometimes they get very cold. Can PEMF be used on my calves and feet in order to improve bloodflod? I do not have any plates or screws in my legs and feet.

  3. My mother who is 65+ has arthritis in her hands. I am currently researching stem cell therapy for her, but could she also benefit from PEMF?

Thank you so much!

Welcome to the Forum. I can give you my opinions on your questions, which is not to be taken as medical advice:

1 - Titanium plates do not seem to cause any problems. Some people report experiencing a tingling sensation for the first few days during use, which is not unpleasant, but you should be aware of it.

2 - It may help. Some people report to me that they respond well for blood flow.

3 - I have personally benefited a great deal using PEMF for arthritis. But the results are mixed: some joints respond well, whereas others do not seem to. Some individuals respond better than others. And in any event, it is a long, slow process of improvement.
