I’ve asked before but thought best now to create a specific topic because I am out of options.
3 years ago, my wheelchair-bound wife got eye shingles just a week before she was scheduled to get her shingles vax (she finally got her shot after the initial recovery but by then it was too late). Although it was treated with Valtrex and she recovered (mostly) and is now on a Valtrex maintenance dose (see Dr. Elizabeth Cohen’s Columbia Univ. study), she has had 3 or 4 relapses since. She has extreme light sensitivity and post-herpetic eye nerve pain that increases during relapses.
Has anyone used the A9 for this particular condition and hopefully had good results? I adapted a pair of lens-less eyeglass frames to hold the coils but have been extremely nervous to use it on her. I consulted Dr. Pawluk about doing this and their answers were very contradictory: essentially, “yes it can help – but we have no proof or experience doing this so be careful – and btw it can injure eyes but sure, go ahead and try…” Not exactly very reassuring. The evidence shows that PEMF is very helpful for general post-herpetic pain but there’s nothing conclusive about treating the eye, which is very sensitive.
I am desperate for help and hoping someone knows better or knows someone who has done it. If this continues or gets worse she may eventually have to live in almost complete darkness 24/7.
