Hi all. I am 69 y/o and one year status post right distal femur fracture with a rod and screws and poor healing of the union. The surgeon recommended and ordered an Orthofix ultrasound bone stimulator which if have been using but I would prefer a PEMF stimulator due to the size of my fracture. My insurance will only pay for one type of stimulator and they are extremly expensive from Orthofix, so I just ordered a refurbished A9 from the micro pulse Ebay site and will start as soon as the unit arrives. The Orthofix stimulator is 15hz PEMF and is to be worn 3 hours a day. I know the A9 is not 15hz but hope that the effects are similar to the Orthofix Physiostim unit. I think I will begin using it during the day to monitor my reactions and then transition to night time when I feel comfortable using the unit, with the coils on opposite sides of the thigh lateral and medial. Let me know if anyone has used it for bone non-unions and I’ll report back after a few months use.
I had great success with the M1 healing my broken elbow much faster than normal as I have reported on posts 5 years ago. My friend who is an orthopedic surgeon was very impressed and said “that’s a really small bone stim!”
