Is the P-9 internal coil equivalent to 2 regular coils when stacked, or is it equivalent to only 1 regular coil? I am asking in order to learn how deep it would generally penetrate and whether there is any advantage to using a set of grey coils (stacked or side-by-side) over the internal coil. Thank you!

The internal coil is very similar to 2 stacked coils. No need to add external gray coils, that wouldn’t work anyway, since the internal coil is switched OFF when external coils are plugged in.
