Optimal placement and duration of PEMF for facet bone healing after stem cell injections

I recently had stem cell + PRF + peptide injections in my lumbar spine to treat pars defects and facet joint degeneration from L5-S1 up to L3-L4. The doctor recommended bone stimulation devices to promote blood flow and healing, and I got the ICES A9 model. Hoping to get input on the routine I’ve planned:

  • Use daily for minimum 8 hours. For my purpose, do you think this is enough time? Or should I try to wear it a full 24 hours? I know you can’t give me medical advice but just based on what you’ve seen/heard, would appreciate your thoughts
  • Place coils in central L4/5 area as “home base”, alternate placement every few days to cover L5/S1 and L3/4. Does that makes sense, or does alternating placement every few days hurt the overall efficacy? Would it be better to adjust placement throughout the day to cover all injection sites? Or maybe even week to week?

Since these areas are on the anterior of the spinal column, I would use a stacked coil configuration for deeper field penetration. That would unfortunately limit you to treating only 1 of the areas at a time. Luckily the areas are all adjacent to one another, so they will likely benefit regardless of which area you are attempting to treat. Given that you have 3 areas to treat and can only treat 1 at a time, I would go for longer treatment times, and break it up based on your schedule. I would alternate placement more at an hourly rather than daily timescale, so like several hours like 4-6) in each location each day. Then see how things go. I have no idea what your current pain level is so it would depend on that as well. But just give it a try and see how your body responds. Keep extra charged batteries available and change them when you relocate the coils. Alternate positions; staked to the left of the spine, to the right of the spine, over the spine if that isn’t too uncomfortable. You could also opt for 1 coil on either side of the spine, to see how that works / feels for you. Best of luck in your recovery!

Thanks for your help! Good note to alternate more frequently; to confirm, if I wear this from 7am to 8pm, I could do 7am-11am l5-s1, 11am-4pm l4-l5, 4pm-8pm l3-l4. Something like this yes?
My pain levels are pretty low currently, my primary goal is to promote blood flow in these areas to help the healing and bone growth.
On placement, my understanding is that the facet joints are posterior structures of the spine rather than anterior, albeit still deep in the spine. I have been using side by side configuration with the regular coils, but was considering switching to the 2x2 array to cover more area and minimize need for switching. I was informed that the 2x2 don’t penetrate as deeply though. Do you think it’s worth sticking with the regular coils to get that depth? I’m also laying down a lot of the day and the stacked configuration didnt feel very comfortable so I’m inclined to use side by side if its recommended

@anonlinefrog you are right, posterior, sorry for the confusion. In that case you probably do not need to stack the coils, and can go with a side by side layout like that in the red box in the screen capture below.

Alternatively you could go with the 2x2 array as you suggest. My experience with the A9 & 2x2 array is it seems to overheat the A9 if you have the power up on H, or X for long periods of time. But again trying things and seeing what works best for you is the name of the game here.
