Coil Attachment Ideas

Just purchased the M1. Looking forward to trying to get relief for my neck/headache issues and low back pain. I am looking for ideas on location of coils and how to hold the coils in place. The neck area seems to be the toughest spot. If anybody would direct me to older posts or links, videos or other info I would appreciate.

Where is your headache? Upper corner of the eyes? Forehead? Temples?

It starts with a stiff neck at the base of my skull, around C2-C3 then travels around and over my left ear to my left eyebrow. So basically the left side of my head. I was thinking for prevention to try and alleviate the stiff neck first.

I think that makes sense. I typically use self adhesive bandage to put the coils side by side and then put flat side to skin and affix with a piece of 3M Transpore skin tape (on skin of the neck - not over hair).

Purchase a Velcro strap with stretchy fabric. Insert the coils at the base of the skull to affect brain stem nerves and C1. I believe I have a better outcome when I put two coils on one side rather than opposite sides at the same time.

We use KT tape (Kinesiology Tape) which, based on how you place it can have its own benefits. It comes in skin tones and colors and different weights in very long rolls or pre-cut lengths of about 8 inches. You can cut it in strips for custom fit, just be sure to round the corners, this obviates edges pulling up. It even sticks through showers and swimming for a few days. Read about it on Amazon. If like us you have too many areas to treat at once, applied properly, some sellers on Amazon give PDF booklets on proper placements. The tape may be all you need some areas or days. It’s magic! To make the coils last much longer, we place them in the smallest zip type plastic bags. This keeps skin oils and lotions and any tape residue off the coils that degrades them. I have coils used 24-7 for much of the time that still trip the tester a year out. I cut tiny holes in the pocket nearest coil placement for the device. You have my sympathy; I have almost sixty years and four surgeries on the neck alone for a bicycle accident.

Thanks for the ideas. I need to try different approaches for my headaches. So far not much luck. I’ll keep moving the coils around if I can find ways to hold them in place.

As for tape, I recommend 3M Micropore surgical tape. I comes in rolls 3” wide which make it very practical to use, and you can position the coils on the tape so that the cables coming into the coils is stuck on the adhesive to reinforce them and (hopefully) extend their lives. Just be careful with using it on sensitive skin like thin-skinned areas near the armpits, etc as if you are not paying attention, you can pull some skin off when removing the tape. I’m allergic to essentially all other tapes and medical adhesives. I’ve been using this tape for years (and I use the 1” tape for taping my lips for sleep) with no issues whatsoever. This tape works SO much better than any of the other options, and it allows you to place the coils in areas where bandages won’t hold them. It also helps to fold over a small edge to grip when removing the tape. You can find the tape reasonably priced on Amazon.

Do you stack the coils or place them side by side?

I try one configuration for 2-3 days and if don’t notice any improvement, I switch to the other configuration. For migraines, I definitely need stacked coils, Alpha, Intensity 15, and I put it on my temples. It sounds like the pain you described is more chronic though than acute, so Omni 8 or Alpha at Intensity 9 with side by side configuration is likely a better starting point if this was me.

Cutting KT-tape into thin strips with minimal transfer of glue onto the scissors is a pain. Unless you first transfer the length you need onto parchment paper, then cut your desired 1/4”, 1/2” strips. Now there is less glue to clean off scissor. Great for alignment on hands, limbs or neck. Thin gloves for hands, socks with the toe box cut off for limbs and bandannas for neck placement. Three 1/4” strips evenly spaced makes stacking easy, as well as reinforcing coil and wire union joint creating a strain release.

Thanks. Great idea! We have also found scissors that appear to have Teflon or similar on the blades. They work much better than standard scissors, but they too build up glue eventually. They were found in a craft sale area at Walmart. KT tape is great; use it nearly every day. Will try the parchment idea tomorrow.
