Hello, i am the son of a 84 y/o patient , my mom in fact who had an accident 1 year ago, resulting in a fracture of the femoral neck. The new hip is fine but the “old” one creates pain because of lack of cartilage as well as arthritis. In additon to several high quality supplements (Glucosamin, hyaluronic acid etc), i just purchased an infrared lamp and an A9 PEMF device this week. I could use either the internal or external coils. What kind of settings could you recommend and for how long and how often would you recommend the treatment? Thanks in advance, Michael
I don’t know what Bob will recommend, but as an Acupuncturist with 30 yrs experience, if it was my family member, this is what I’d do. I should add I’ve been using the A9 and M1 for years, they have been amazing tools for healing and controlling pain. I use Bob’s external coils during sleep, sitting, etc. …all day if need be. I use the DC adapter to maintain constant power or make sure the batteries are fresh and don’t get weak. Part of the healing process means reducing the local swelling so new blood can move in, and the pemf and photobiomodulation does that. Whatever setting prevents accommodation is what I choose, or I keep changing settings every few days. Acupuncturists have learned that one reason they go back and re-stimulate a needle in place is that the body gets used to it and will start to ignore it. With pain, you don’t want the body to get used to and no longer respond to a frequency/energy input. Treat daily for hours with the pemf. Can’t do that with photobiomodulation, it’s a waste of effort. Cells absorb only so much energy and then they are done. I have found the pemf reduces pain and swelling, which means increase circulation…always a good thing. Try different locations of the coils around her hip, over the scar site or where the pain is worst. The stimulation should not be so high it hurts. The older we are the slower we heal, so it won’t be a quickie fix. But it may help her quality of life. Good luck .
Thanks for your reply and advice. I guess I will start with Programm A 9 Intensity 10, use the long coils, apply them in bed 3 to 4 hours a day (using DC or 9v) and then change the program every few days.
You mention internal or external coils so did you buy the P9 (which has this internal coils and ability to use optional coils). Typically folks start with the Omni 8 protocol intensity 9. @Bob has a personal experience using ICES PEMF on his hips so could also way in.
Yes i purchased the P9 but also 47" coils as i intend to place the P9 under her cushion to avoid any damage (mom is 84 and keeps forgetting things) to the unit if i am not present.
Smart. I don’t recommend starting with program A9 ( I think that is the earlier protocol before the current A9s come with Omni 8), but rather Omni 8.
Thanks @TajD I wonder what Bob will advise. Anyway, i am glad for your advice and just selected Omni8 on mums hip with both coils stacked upon each other. Is it correct to have them bump to bump towards the body? like 4 mins here https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/Ew1H4nglT0A
Ok, just to clarify, 4 mins in on that video was side by side configuration, not stacked configuration. For stacked coils, either stack bumpy against bumpy or flat to flat and then you aren’t (this is an incorrect crude phrase, but gets the idea across) canceling each other out.
Look at 4.40 mins please, that is the stack i did - bumpy to bumpy side

That’s great! Yes, then put either side over the hip.
